When they first come to us, many of the kids you support through your gifts to New Day are behind academically. Either because they were physically not able to attend school, or because their trauma made it impossible for them to learn and engage. The kids often feel frustrated and hopeless about school because of the large gaps in their educational experience. It is not uncommon to hear them say things such as, “I’m so stupid! I’m dumb. I can’t do this.” It take patience, love and a little bit of one on one tutoring to help them get up to speed. It’s wonderful to see them come to life as they discover the joy of learning and that they CAN learn!

We all know that a good education opens doors! It opens doors to the possibilities in life. To higher education or trade schools. It helps us to be better citizens and to live more fully into the person God created us to be.
