Fall Horse Camp 2022
“Riding a horse is worth a hundred therapy sessions!
I’m so happy!!”

It’s a beautiful thing to meet someone who makes you forget your troubles. Who listens quietly to all your pain, fear and anxiety. Who does not judge you. Does not label you. These are the gifts each girl receives from her horse at horse camp. As herd animals, horses sense and understand the feelings of other horses, and people too. A horse’s survival depends on sensing any disturbances in their environment. If you approach a horse when angry, it will react, becoming agitated and stubborn. If you are emotionally upset, the horse will sense that and become nervous or troubled. You can’t hide your feelings around them. Horses also look toward leadership. At first, this can be an intimidating position for the girls, but stepping up and becoming the leader is essential when working with horses. At the same time, a horse can sense when a person is too aggressive and will react by becoming restless or jittery. Equine therapy requires the girls to remain calm, centered, focused, and fully engaged.
Horses bring healing with their gentle and accepting manner. They draw out empathy as the girls brush them, water and feed them. And horses build confidence as the rider learns to lead. It’s a beautiful thing to meet someone who makes you forget your troubles…
