New Day Life Coach

Behold, I am doing a new thing, now it springs forth…” Isaiah 43:19

God is doing a new thing through New Day and I’m honored to be a part of that work! In February, after 6 years of helping trafficked women as a volunteer, NDC asked me to join the team as a life coach for New Day for Children alumni. Virtually and in person, I help them to dream about their futures and identify their goals. Then together we establish steps to achieve their plans and I walk with them as an accountability partner to keep them moving forward.

New Day’s Life Coach/Momtor ~ part mentor, part mom!

Typically, when we say the words “I accidentally…” it’s followed by a negative thing, but not in this case!”

In 2016, I accidentally started volunteering for New Day when I met a young woman, a New Day alumni at a church activity we both regularly participated in. I didn’t know her past or her story, but, through the Holy Spirit, I knew she needed support. This is how I became an accidental volunteer! I was helping out in a way that I had not deliberately set forth to do and didn't know would be so impactful. Our casual church relationship grew to a mentoring friendship that blossomed into “family” when she later moved into our home.

God had a greater plan for this “accident”; since meeting this gal three more trafficked girls have spent time in our home. Now, I help the girls be more fully prepared for adulthood. We meet both virtually and in person, coaching them to dream and helping them to identify their goals. We establish steps to achieve those goals, and then we walk together so they have an accountability partner to keep moving forward. Along the way, the life skills they are gaining empower them both for today and for their future.

Throughout this time together, the girls have faced some big challenges: receiving a terminal disease diagnosis, and testifying in a murder trial against their traffickers. They’re also accomplishing some big goals like attending college, planning a wedding, touring colleges, registering/attending cosmetology school (completing that goal in less than two weeks) and passing the state cosmetology boards.

New Day strives to stay current with girls who are desirous of ongoing relationship, giving them the space to move forward while being available to give a helping hand when needed. One of the things that has always set New Day apart is our deep understanding that the journey of hope and healing is not a straight line. There will often be bumps in the road, and there is not a “time limit” to our commitment and support; we will never be constrained by arbitrary stop dates or a girl's age. Healing from sex trafficking is a long journey, one that must extend beyond the kids’ time in their CSEC (commercially sexually exploited children) program. Today, because of your generous gifts, New Day has a Life Coach! I am honored to help our young ladies and blessed by doing it, but I don’t do it alone!

I hope you feel as blessed as I do for your part in helping them achieve these accomplishments through your prayer support and financial gifts!

From “May”: As my life coach and Momtor (part mentor, part mom and a whole lot of advocate), she has been there for me when I’m not at my strongest. She’s helped me through a lot, like helping me finish my schooling (I have a high school diploma now!!) and learning how to save money. But most of all, she is helping me make choices for my life that have led me to my own freedom, like my own bank account and apartment. I’m so grateful for New Day and my life coach for everything you’ve done!

From “Aubrey”: My Momtor has been a huge blessing to me. She has helped me identify core values that enable me to live a productive lifestyle by setting goals for myself and I strive to accomplish them. Some of those goals include being my best self, growing relationships, and showing grace. I’ve learned the importance of knowing that I matter and that I have power over my choices. I’m so grateful to have someone so caring as my life coach to mentor me. (“Aubrey” is establishing budgets, both for home and for her upcoming wedding!)
